[NYC] Lincoln Ristorante: Director of Private Dining & Events

A Manhattan mainstay on the Upper West Side, Lincoln Center sets the stage for internationally acclaimed performers and prodigies. The perfect complement to this array of art forms lies just off stage-left, a culinary companion. Encased in glass, the Louvre-esque Lincoln Ristorante beacons art patrons to join them for a meal.

Executive Chef Jonathan Benno (awarded “The World Ambassador of White Truffles of Alba” last year [1] ), puts a modern spin on Italian classics. “My mission is to translate traditional pan-Italian recipes for today’s New York,” Chef Benno tells IN New York Magazine [2] . The reginette verdi al ragú Bolognese, for instance, features ruffled green pasta. “Reginette verdi is not only fun, it’s the perfect vehicle for a ragú,” he says, adding “a bit of chicken liver to the usual pork and beef, for a wonderfully meaty taste.”

The Alfus Group partnered with Patina Restaurant Group to place Lincoln’s Director of Private Dining & Events in December, 2012. Lincoln Ristorante is a culinary staple of New York City, in the heart of a cultural epicenter. Their doors are open daily for lunch, pre-theater, dinner and weekend brunch.

[NYC] Friars Club: Director of Banquets

Dapper gentlemen with classic one-liners bring bawdy hilarity to a black-tie setting. Legendary roasts of the Hollywood elite have made headlines at the Friars Club for over a century.

Built in 1909, this historic venue combines vintage charm with modern luxury. Every event is a timeless and elegant affair, every room an homage to an American icon.

Membership marks a show business milestone. Vibrant young talent are inducted each year, joining the ranks of A-list entertainers. Prominent members include Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson, Lucille Ball, Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner, and Richard Pryor, just to name a very scant few.

An all-male club for many years, the Friars evolved with the times and welcomed Liza Minelli as their first female member in 1988. Of course, this didn’t stop other women from joining in on the fun. At her husband Humphrey Bogart’s roast in ’55, Lauren Bacall sent along a tape to play for the boys:  “This is Lauren Bacall, the uninvited guest, you rat bastards.” Phyllis Diller went so far as to dress like a man, sneaking into Sid Caesar’s 1983 roast. She came clean afterward, tongue firmly in cheek, admitting, “It was the funniest and dirtiest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”  [1]

While the hallways erupt with raucous laughter, the Friars Foundation is focused on charity. Since its inception, the foundation has granted hundreds of scholarships to performing arts students; Many of these kids have since found success on Broadway and on the silver screen. Every year, a holiday raffle is also held to benefit the Sunshine Committee. This group offers entertainment and companionship to senior citizens and children’s centers all over New York.

The Alfus Group is proud to work with the Friars Club team, placing their Director of Banquets in November, 2012. Always prestigious, never pretentious, their events are unparalleled — and unforgettable.

[NY & NJ] Pro-Bono Placement: Covenant House – Director of Human Resources

As the New York and New Jersey areas struggle to recover from the wreckage caused by Hurricane Sandy this week, non-profits are rushing to help their neighbors in need.

Considered one of the area’s most vital charities, Covenant House provides shelter for homeless, at-risk, and runaway youth. Founded in Manhattan’s lower east side 30 years ago, this organization has since broadened its outreach across the U.S. and in Latin America, helping nearly 80,000 children and teens each year.

In the aftermath of this devastating storm, the shelter in Atlantic City sustained considerable damage, and the staff of both the Newark and New York shelters have had tremendous difficulty commuting to work. Nevertheless, generous volunteers continue their steady stream of support, working around-the-clock to provide warm meals and a safe haven for hundreds of refugees.

The Alfus Group is proud to contribute to Covenant House’s team, placing their Director of Human Resources earlier this month.

To help their ongoing effort, text KIDS to 80888 to donate $10. You can also visit Covenant House’s Emergency Relief Effort Page to make a donation in the amount of your choice. Donations of any amount will help these tireless volunteers continue to rally support and provide emergency aid in the days and weeks to come.

[CO] The Stanley Hotel: Executive Chef, Financial Controller

October is hauntingly beautiful at The Stanley Hotel, with elaborate decor, themed parties, and regular ghost tours of the estate and its underground tunnels. Their now famous Halloween Shining Ball and Murder Mystery Dinner events take place this year on Friday October 26th, and Saturday October 27th.

Fans of Stephen King’s horror novels should request room 217, the very room that originally inspired King to write The Shining. This room is said to be haunted by the ghost of a hotel maid, as well as a small boy calling for his nanny. Sometimes guests staying that room also encounter extra housekeeping services, having their things put away or unpacked.  [1]

The Stanley Hotel served as the original inspiration for Stephen King’s The Shining

Each of the 138 guest rooms have reportedly had their own haunted encounters. No need to be too scared, though; The staff ensures these are harmless “extra experiences,” such as being tucked in at night, or hearing Flora Stanley playing her piano in the Music Room.

Beyond the haunted history, this majestic 102-year-old Colorado hotel offers unique excursions such as hiking through the beautiful terrain of the Rocky Mountain National Park, browsing local artists’ outdoor gallery in the Stanley Sculpture Garden, even releasing Monarch butterflies into the wild with the Butterfly Encounter.

The Alfus Group has worked on several searches for The Stanley over the years, including their Executive Chef and Financial Controller positions.   It’s a lovely property and premier destination for nature lovers and historians, all year round.
